Starting this week, we will publish news regularly (the goal is weekly) on our website and facebook. Not because we need to have a weblog as well, but because we find that people like to read about pigeons and how others take care of their pigeons. We can and will facilitate that by writing about our experiences in and around the loft.
Here we go! First, a review. Until 2020 it went very well with several NPO wins with young and old and national ace pigeons. After that it became more changeable with top 10 listings but also with some not so good flights. In 2022 and 2023, things were downright bad. With the old pigeons then. The youngsters continued to do very well.
We can be long or short about it, but in the end it turned out to be a latent paratyphoid infection combined with the mechanical ventilation system that “suddenly” stopped functioning properly after 8 years. But after a good paratyphoid cure with vaccination, stopping the exhaust system and windbreak netting in the window frames, the pigeons are healthy again.
Because we were unable to select well for two years and still wanted to give the pigeons present a fair chance, we chose to sacrifice a youngster loft and keep more old pigeons. This resulted in us basketing as many as 94 pigeons for the first race.
With a strong southwest wind, the North Holland pigeons were blown home from Roosendaal and it was enjoyable to watch the arrivals. Because of a new division of the division, we were with this wind and the short(st) distance very unfavorable in the Circle (that will be different with O in the wind), but within our Zaanse samenspel with 50 fanciers within a radius of 5 kilometers, the result was fine. 6-13-14-15-17 etc. against 1,514 pigeons (51/94). The competition is open for 5 minutes and 39 seconds.
What is worth mentioning is that it was started with the1st and2nd drawn. And that from 94 pigeons. Unfortunately, this doesn’t count for De Duif (the3rd drawn was also on time) but nice is it.
Reference of the week: Richard Faber, Westzaan plays the2nd of 3,237 pigeons in Kring 3 with the ‘898’ (hen). The father comes from us and is a son of TGV.
